I was at Magic Mart in Teays Valley recently and grabbed some great deals on clearance winter clothing at 70% off. Retailers offer the same great clearance deals online. You can buy clearance items, hard to find items and more at drastic reductions. If you worry about shopping online, as I did, you can follow a few safety rules for buying.

Use the same credit card with credit card protection for purchases. Use a card with a low limit. You can easily track any unauthorized purchases by knowing which card was used. If you don't have an actual credit card, you can open a separate free checking account at several area banks and get a debit card to use. You can use this account to buy online without using your main checking account. You can also set up an account with Paypal. Paypal is a safe, secure, online credit card processing company, many retailers allow you to pay with Paypal. Always print or save the transaction information in case you need to refer to it at a later date. When you are finalizing payments look for the "secure lock". You will usually see one in the bottom right hand corner, but it is sometimes located on the main search bar. This lock should be in the locked position, this tells you that the site information is encrypted, that means the code used to transmit information is jumbled and therefore hard to read. Look for a URL that begins with https://, and the words "Secure Socket Layer" (SSL), this means that no one but you and the retailer can view the information. If you're not sure about an online retailer you would like to purchase from, there are several ways to do searches to find more information about that particular retailer. The BBB, or Better Business Bureau, lists businesses and information. Most online retailers will have an 800 number for you to call. Read the information on the site about warranties, returns and privacy. You may also find feedback by doing a google search from those who purchased from these retailers. It's hard to hide bad feedback on the Internet, which is a good thing, since it helps keep people honest.

You can get great deals, and find unique items online. I just bought a pot rack from Amazon.com last week. I was really anxious about my purchase. When it arrived, in less time that I expected, I was so pleased. For the total cost of around $40.00, which includes shipping, it was large, sturdy and it holds some pretty heavy pots and pans.
