Camping tips:
  • Spray waterproof protection on the outside of your tent to help seal out rain.
  • Use large plastic containers for organization. One for food, and one for supplies.
  • Remember to bring along some bug spray and sunscreen.
  • Large plastic containers can also be used to store clothes. These containers will be perfect if it rains, keeping everything dry.
  • Bring along some games, books, and activities that the whole family can enjoy together.
  • Don't forget the fishing poles, licenses, and bait.
  • Make it a family affair to plan the entire road trip. This is a great time to teach kids how to read maps, survive on less, and engage activities without modern technology.
  • Freeze ice before your trip in empty plastic gallon jugs to use in your cooler. You can chip ice into smaller pieces to better utilize cooler space.
  • Bring along a spiral stake and extra chain for your dog. This way you can move the stake around your campsite as needed, and give "Fido" something new to look at.
  • Let a friend, neighbor, or family member know your intended destination, and intended return date. Some campsites may lack cell phone service.
  • Keep meals simple, and get the kids involved. Learning how to prepare, and cook over an open fire is sure to be a favorite memory.
  • Don't forget the makings for the smores. Kids love this family tradition.
  • Above all, have fun, and make some new family memories.
